My name is Romina Prodan, I’m 28 years old and I am from Chisinau, Moldova. I am a daughter, mother and wife, which makes me feel happy and accomplished. In 2015, during a routine medical check-up, my family’s dreams were shattered following my diagnosis with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma of the nodular sclerosis subtype, 2nd degree, with a mediastinal formation of 132x111×95 mm (5.11 x 4.33 × 3.54 inch).
That was a trying and painful period for our family that exhausted our financial resources, which as parents, we had set aside for our 4-year-old son, Alexandru. I followed a 4-course chemotherapy treatment in Turkey, followed by radiotherapy in 20 fractions. The entire treatment and regular doctor visits cost us 30,000 EUR. The most important part though was that I was in remission.
However, in the fight for life, the illness didn’t give up. During the last check-up that had to be performed in Turkey, again, the doctors detected enlarged supraclavicular and axillary lymph nodes and an increased risk of the illness returning, which was confirmed by biopsy. The doctors decided that the treatment needed to consist of chemotherapy and auto-transplant of stem cells. The news was devastating, as the treatment from 2015 exhausted all our financial resources. The estimated cost of the treatment is 50,000EUR, which is unattainable through personal finances.
I would like the chance to grow old with my husband, who’s been very supportive during these trying times. I would like the chance for us to raise our son and for me to be able to hug him every day without the fear of losing the battle against this illness. Therefore, I would appreciate everyone’s help and any kind of donation and I hope that in turn, one day I’ll be able to help give someone else a chance at life.
