A message from Livia:

I am asking from the bottom of my heart for your support, so I can survive and be there for my 8-year-old daughter, who desperately needs her mother! My name is Livia, and I am 33 years old. In the fall of 2023, I was diagnosed with uterine cancer (leiomyosarcoma). After the diagnosis, I underwent several chemotherapy sessions, but unfortunately, they were not effective. I then had a highly complex surgery. After the surgery, I went through three more chemotherapy sessions with different drugs, but they didn’t work.

My doctors have recommended new chemotherapy sessions using a drug called Yondelis (Trabectedin), which is not available in our country and can only be sourced from abroad. At this point, it is the only drug that could help slow down or stop the progression of my disease. However, this treatment is extremely expensive—each chemotherapy session costs over €5,000. My family borrowed money, and my relatives, friends, and acquaintances have generously helped us, for which I am deeply grateful. But the funds we’ve managed to raise have only covered four rounds of treatment, and I need more to keep fighting. The exact number of sessions I will need is unknown—it all depends on how my body responds to the treatment. In some cases, patients have continued this therapy for up to two years. The treatment schedule is one chemotherapy session every 21 days.

It was incredibly difficult for me to reach out and ask for help—I feel uncomfortable doing so—but the fear of my daughter being without a mother pushed me to take this step. I can’t bear the thought of the psychological and emotional trauma this would cause her. We’ve done everything we can to protect her emotionally, and she doesn’t know the full extent of my illness, but she understands that I’m ill. Being such a sensitive child, there have been moments when she has tearfully begged me not to get worse, telling me she’s afraid of losing me and that she needs me by her side. It breaks my heart to think her fears could come true.

I’m not so much afraid for myself as I am for her. It’s because of her that I’ve made this difficult decision to ask for your assistance, as we have no other options at this point.
